Local Area

Skye has many places of interest and we’re happy to share our local knowledge to help you make the most of your visit. Otter Lodge is conveniently located in the village of Broadford; only ten minutes’ drive from the Skye Bridge and around half an hour from Armadale or Elgol.

Broadford has a supermarket, shops and a twenty-four hour fuel station. We’re also blessed with a good range of restaurants; including some that offer local seafood and are within walking distance. The village has some great walks, too; with the seashore just across the road from us. You can find out more about our favourite local walks here.

Portree and North Skye are less than an hour away. A useful place to start planning your visit is isleofskye.com where you will find lots of information about the island. For insiders’ guides to less well-known attractions it’s worth looking at My Skye Time and Undiscovered Scotland .

We’re very close to the Sleat Peninsular and Armadale, where you will find the softer side of Skye. The main attractions are the Clan Donald Centre, with its beautiful gardens and the Gaelic College, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig with its regular programme of cultural events. For more information check out Visit Sleat

The boat trips from Elgol and Kyleakin are very popular. They are a great way of seeing wildlife such as eagles, whales and, of course, otters. There are three operators in Elgol, with a wide range of excursions to choose from. At Kyleakin, the glass bottom boat ‘Seaprobe Atlantis’, gives visitors the chance to see the underwater world without having to put on diving gear.
