Otter Lodge Blog: Guide to the Fairy Pools

We’ve lived on the Isle of Skye for several years now and never seen a fairy.

This is actually quite surprising as there are quite a few clues to suggest you might catch a glimpse of one; for example: the Fairy Glen near Uig, the Fairy Flag at Dunvegan Castle, and the Fairy Bridge near Stein. Most famous of all the magical places have to be the Fairy Pools in Glen Brittle. However, if we’re honest, this is probably the least likely place you’ll encounter the wee folk with wings (unless it’s the biting sort) as it is one of the most popular spots for visitors on the whole of the island; an amphitheatre of jagged mountains surrounding a river of clear water that falls into shimmering blue-green pools. No wonder they are a magnet for photographers and wild swimmers.
